近來搜尋霸主Google推出GMail服務，這項儲存容量高達1GB的電子郵件服務在網路世界引起不少話題，在達康（.com）泡沫化、盛極一時的免費電子郵件紛紛縮減規模或轉向收費之際，GMail不啻是一項振奮人心的消息。

在Google推出重量級的GMail服務後，免費電子郵件信箱似乎又回到當年.COM百家爭鳴的盛況，Google自今年4月開始提供測試版的GMail，以既有用戶發出邀請函的方式提供免費email帳號，由於超大1GB容量的號召以及Google特有的email管理機制，在網路掀起一股GMail熱潮。

這也讓在Yahoo與Hotmail紛紛跟進擴大郵件信箱，例如美國Yahoo便將免費郵件信箱由6MB擴大為100MB，美國Hotmail則將免費空間從2MB提高到250MB，當然付費使用者可以享有的容量更高。
